Overview
Software delivery is more than transferring a file. Planning with WAFGO considers which version a client receives, how it validates the package, how transfers resume and how a faulty release is withdrawn.
Separate release artifacts from download entry points
Use stable, immutable version URLs for packages and point download pages or manifests to the approved release. This supports caching, auditing and recovery.
Artifact integrity
Sign and verify artifacts before release, and publish checksums through a trusted channel rather than only confirming a successful transfer.
Release channels
Separate stable, preview and internal channels so audiences do not share inappropriate cache behavior or access rights.
Artifact lifecycle
Define retention, withdrawal and archiving, keeping useful rollback artifacts without indefinitely retaining every file.
Validate the full large-file transfer
Partial transfers, retries and credential expiry influence large-download outcomes. Acceptance testing should cover the journey from download initiation to completed validation.
- Test pause, resume and network switching, including how clients handle changes to the underlying file.
- Separate authorization from shared caching for private packages and avoid long-lived publicly reusable credentials.
- Compare first downloads and warm-cache transfers from representative regions, recording errors and recovery.
Prepare a reversible rollout for update peaks
System images, enterprise clients and developer tools have different update peaks. Stage releases according to package sizes and audiences, documenting origin and budget constraints.
| Release stage | Check |
|---|---|
| Before release | Signing, integrity, URLs, origin capacity and contacts |
| During rollout | Completion rates, version distribution, errors and repeat transfers |
| After release | Previous-version retention, cache updates and cost reconciliation |
Implementation & checks
- 01
Inventory artifacts
Document platforms, versions, package sizes and authorization needs.
- 02
Validate clients
Test installers, updaters and command-line download tools.
- 03
Roll out progressively
Record each rollout and retain a working recovery path.
