Object storage and CDN integration planning

Plan the relationship between object storage, content copies, CDN delivery and permissions, including versions, lifecycle and total cost.

Overview

Images, packages, videos and documents all need a dependable source. Planning storage separately from delivery lets you adjust retention and access experience independently without making every release change the whole chain.

This page describes storage integration planning. It does not announce an available standalone object-storage service or specified regions. Storage services, replication methods and capacity limits need confirmation.

01

Organize delivery around content objects

Give each asset an identifier, release version, content type and access policy. A directory structure helps people organize files, but permissions still need enforcement by the service and delivery layer.

Source assets

Retain recoverable originals and distinguish drafts, processed outputs and published versions.

Access addresses

Separate public domains from internal storage addresses to simplify certificates, migration and permissions.

Metadata

Check content types, cache headers, filenames and download behavior so browsers handle files correctly.

02

Let application needs determine replication

More copies may improve read paths while adding storage, synchronization and consistency work. Locate your readers and writers before deciding whether cross-region copies are useful.

  • Identify the primary write location and consistency requirements.
  • Verify how new files, overwrites and deletions propagate between copies.
  • Plan delivery replicas separately from independent backups and exercise recovery.
03

The lifecycle determines long-term cost

Publication is only one stage. Old versions, unfinished uploads and unused derivatives also need cleanup rules.

Implementation & checks

  1. 01

    Inventory assets

Record object sizes, update frequency, audience regions and sensitivity.

  2. 02

    Verify delivery

Test cold reads, large files, permission denial and missing-copy behavior.

  3. 03

    Establish maintenance

Schedule version cleanup, usage review, recovery tests and permission checks.

Frequently asked questions

Not in every application. Review read and write methods, consistency, file-operation semantics and software dependencies before migrating.

No. It may reduce some origin-read distance while increasing storage and synchronization usage. Evaluate total cost against actual access patterns.
